Hello all Pear Tree Self Defense Center students, friends, and supporters.
The first week of 2022 has already been challenging. However, we will continue to do our best to bring you quality Original Jeet Kune Do training, even during this trying time.
At this time, our kwoon, (school), is physically closed due to the uptick of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. In Wichita, the positive tests are currently at 17% positive, and at 26% positive in the State of Kansas. This is calculated on a 2 week rolling period. When the percentage rates come down to around 10% in Wichita, we will go back to in person classes, wearing masks and sanitizing properly.
Until then, we are doing ZOOM classes with me leading the training. This is a great opportunity to train live with us from the safety of you own home. You don't need any special equipment, but if you have a punching bag or something to hit, all the better. We are training in JKD techniques and taking the opportunity to philosophize and discuss what Bruce Lee developed in Oakland California in the mid 1960s.
One of Bruce Lee's core concept of JKD is adaptability in a fight. Well, this concept goes far beyond fighting, It covers everything in life. Covid-19 has been with us for two years now, with no clear end in sight, so we have to adapt. Getting vaccinated, wearing masks, washing and sanitizing your hands, staying away from spreader events, staying as healthy as you possibly can and doing remote training are all ways of adapting to this modern plague. So many who have politicized Covid-19 in the last 2 years by going against mandates, not wearing protective gear, taking home cures or horse medicine that do not work, and denying the scientific proof, are getting and spreading Covid-19 in alarming numbers. We have seen our share of these people and they decided to no longer train with us. The rest of us decided to adapt to the continually changing situation and to keep training in Jeet Kune Do.
